Fortinet Championship History

The Fortinet Championship started in 1999 at the Silverado Resort and Spa. However, after a decade, they moved to another golf club called Poppy Hills Golf Course.

After five years of being at Poppy Hills, they returned to their original golf course in Napa Valley in 2014. The Poppy Hills Golf Course is a par 70 with a course rating of 72.8/136 and was designed by Jack Fleming & Steve Wolfard.

The golf course was named after Robert Muir Graves, who designed it.  Its championship status comes from hosting this annual sporting event.

Graves contributed to building more than 200 courses around the world, but this one is his best known work.

Fortinet Championship Course

The Fortinet Championship is a PGA Tour Champions Golf Tournament that takes place over two rounds. The first round, or the pro-am round, starts on Thursday and then the regular tournament begins on Friday.

On Sunday it concludes with a trophy presentation at 18:00 PST. In total there are 24 players in this tournament.

Fortinet Championship 2012 & 2014 Winner

In the Fortinet Championship in 2012, Kevin Sutherland won with a score of -19 under par. In 2014 John Cook became the champion, beating out Brad Faxon at -14 under par. The total prize money for these championships was $1,500,000 each year.

The Champion of The Fortinet Championship receives the following:

·         Winner’s jacket;

·         Silver trophy; and,

·         The choice to be exempt into the pro-am round at the same course in 2015. This pro-am round is typically 4 days before the main tournament.

Length of a Fortinet Championship Round

The length for each round is typically 4-6 hours, depending on how fast the players play and also whether there are weather delays. Each day starts at 7:30 AM PDT and ends at about 19:00 PM PDT. Players must finish their round within this time frame in order to be in compliance with the rules.

The Fortinet Championship is hosted by the PGA Tour at Silverado Resort and Spa North in Napa, California.

Silverado Resort and Spa is a public golf course with a total of 72 holes spread out over three courses. The Championship Course has 18 holes and is the most popular for this event. It was designed by Robert Muir Graves and opened back in 1991.

The Fortinet Championship is held at the Silverado Resort North on course number 18. This event happens every year in August.

About the Silverado Resort and Spa North

The Silverado Resort and Spa North is a part of the larger Silverado Country Club. The area is located in the Napa Valley, California.
